Beyond the keyboard. Beyond the screen. The next frontier of AI is sensory. At Ursly, we’re exploring how technology can respond to more of the human experience. Our software foundation is taking shape. Smell and taste are in active research. We’re seeking university partners in biotechnology, chemistry, sensory science, and engineering. Together, we can turn a focused research question into a measurable demonstration. Build the sensory layer with us. Ursly.io.

01 / THE MISSION

Let technology
adapt to people.

A richer human interface should help people express an intention, receive meaningful feedback and stay in control of the interaction.

Ursly explores voice, motion, smell, taste, sight and touch. We want to connect that software experience to the physical world through research that can be measured, reproduced and understood.

02 / THE RESEARCH GAP

A sense is morethan a signal.

We need complementary expertise to connect chemical measurements, software and human perception. Each layer needs its own proof.

Choose a layer to explore

INPUT

Sense the chemistry.

Capture defined airborne or liquid samples with calibrated instruments. Build representations that distinguish samples under known conditions.

THE EXPERTISE WE NEED

Analytical chemistry · Biosensors
Signal processing · Machine learning

FIRST PROOFA reference dataset and repeatable measurements.

OUTPUT

Deliver a sensation.

Explore controlled scent and taste delivery for a small agreed set of sensory targets. Start with ambient or tabletop concepts and lab-selected hardware.

THE EXPERTISE WE NEED

Microfluidics · Biomedical engineering
Electronics · Sensory device design

FIRST PROOFControlled output, repeatability and reset behavior.

HUMAN RESPONSE

Measure perception.

Test what participants actually perceive, how consistently they perceive it and where people differ. Separate chemical profiles from personal experience.

THE EXPERTISE WE NEED

Chemosensory neuroscience · Psychophysics
Food sensory science · Human-computer interaction

FIRST PROOFA lab-led protocol and interpretable results.

A contactless experience remains a design goal. Chemical sampling and sensory delivery still require physical infrastructure; the appropriate form must be established with the lab.

03 / WHERE WE ARE

A software foundation.
A research frontier.

EXISTING FOUNDATION

An interactive human-interface demonstrator.

Six illustrative interface directions, English/French content and a developer integration contract. The software accepts supplied voice transcripts and normalized gestures to resolve action intents.

ACTIVE RESEARCH

The physical smell and taste layer.

Smell and taste are active research areas. We are seeking complementary academic expertise for acquisition, calibration, sensory delivery and perceptual validation.

NEXT SHARED PROOF

A bounded, validated demonstration.

Connect an agreed device or reference instrument to Ursly, document its operating limits and test a small set of targets. Current visualizations use synthetic signals and do not demonstrate functioning smell or taste hardware.

04 / BUILD WITH US

One shared question.
Complementary teams.

Can we connect a reproducible chemical signal or controlled sensory output to a useful, consent-based human interface?

URSLY CONTRIBUTES

The software and
integration work.

  • Interface design, developer adapters and prototype integration.
  • A concrete use case and rapid iteration with researchers.
  • Data structures, timing and control workflows to develop together.
THE UNIVERSITY CONTRIBUTES

The science and
experimental method.

  • A principal investigator and a suitable graduate research project.
  • Relevant instruments, device expertise and reference methods.
  • Experimental design, supervision and human-study review.
WHY IT MATTERS FOR A LAB

A concrete integration problem, a platform for research prototypes, graduate training and the possibility of publishable methods and results under agreed terms.

A proposed first year.

A renewable research framework, with milestones agreed together.

MONTHS 01–02

Scope & references

Agree target samples, roles, instruments, funding and an evaluation protocol.

MONTHS 03–05

Bench demonstration

Connect one research channel and measure calibration, drift and repeatability.

MONTHS 06–09

Perceptual evaluation

If ready and approved, assess recognition, intensity, comfort and individual differences.

MONTHS 10–12

Integrate & decide

Demonstrate the workflow, document limits and agree the next research phase.

Proposed sequencing, contingent on lab capacity, resources and approvals. Scope, staffing, funding, intellectual property, data access and publication terms will be agreed before work begins.

05 / RESEARCH CONTEXT

Grounded in a
real field of research.

These are examples of relevant academic work. They demonstrate why a multidisciplinary research approach is needed.

SCIENCE WORTH SHARING

Big questions.
Short films.

Three starting points for a conversation about sensory computing. Share a question. Bring a scientist into the discussion.

All films use conceptual animation and synthetic narration. They describe Ursly’s research direction and invitation to collaborate.

LET’S DEFINE THE FIRST EXPERIMENT.

Bring your expertise.
Let’s build the next proof.

A 30-minute scoping conversation is enough to identify the right lab, the first research question and a practical path forward.
